CHAD: CHILDREN HAVE AN iDENTITY
STICKERS NOW AVAILABLE
CHAD: Children Have An iDentity is the child safety seat identification program that has been developed as the result of a traffic crash involving a 13-year old boy named Chad. The babysitter who had been driving was killed. Chad was injured, but no one at the scene knew his identity. Only because and emergency room nurse recognized him could his parents be quickly located and his injuries treated. To ensure rapid identification of your child in such an emergency, the CHAD sticker program has been developed. FIRE DEPARTMENT SUPPORTS THE UNITED STATES AIR FORCE 40th AIRLIFT SQUADRON
"SCREAMING EAGLES"
In March of 2007, the City of Herculaneum officially adopted the United States Air Force 40th Airlift Squadron based at Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene Texas and an undisclosed military base in the Middle East. The unit reciprocated the adoption of the City of Herculaneum. Members of the squadron fly Hercules C-130 planes and refer to themselves as the "Herc Flyers", a name that dovetails nicely with Herculaneum. Marcy Howard, wife of Sergeant Matt Howard who was assigned to the unit, met with Herculaneum city officials to explain the adoption. The city presented Mrs. Howard with the City's Bicentennial flag and a Herculaneum City Limit sign.
The Herculaneum Fire Department presented Mrs. Howard with two department flags (each signed by department members), a fire department directional sign, two fire department clocks, and two fire department afghans. All items featured the fire department logo. Two of each item were presented to Mrs. Howard - one for Dyess Air Base and one for the Middle East base. A third flag was presented and requested that it be flown on their missions and then returned to the fire department with the squadron members signatures.
In June, Sergeant Howard and his wife, visited the Herculaneum Fire Station and presented a DVD program that showed the unit in action overseas. The fire department flag was pictured prominently in the video. Sgt. Howard also presented the department with the department flag that had flown in Afghanistan, Iraq and other areas of the Middle East and signed by the squadron members. A shadow box that included a flyers scarf, squadron patches, squadron challenge coins and a United States Flag was presented to the department.
The fire department presented Sgt. Howard and his wife with three shadow boxes that featured the Herculaneum Fire Department patches, United States Flag patches, a wood cut out of the Fire Station and a set of three Bicentennial Coins each numbered #40 in recognition of the 40th Airlift Squadron. The shadow boxes were to be sent to the two air bases and one to be kept by Sergeant and Mrs. Howard.

ISO INSURANCE RATING FOR HERCULANEUM NOW A CLASS 5
During the month of March 2005, representatives of the Insurance Services Office (ISO) conducted an analysis of the structure fire suppression system provided in the City of Herculaneum. The study conducted by ISO included an analysis of the fire department and the city's water delivery system. The Herculaneum Fire Department and the City of Herculaneum are happy to report that in August 2005, the ISO has submitted their report and now the insurance classification for the City of Herculaneum is CLASS 5. The new classification represents an improvement from the previous Class 7. This drop in classification should result in a substantial reduction in Herculaneum residents' homeowners insurance. ISO will advise its subscribing insurers of the classification change within the next 30 days (late September 2005) and assign an effective date of October 1, 2005. This date allows insurers the necessary lead time to incorporate the Public Protection Classification change into their policy rating systems.
While the Herculaneum Fire Department is proud of this change in classification, the department will continue to work towards improvements (within budget constraints) suggested by ISO. With continued efforts towards improving fire protection services and improvements to the city's water delivery system, the classification could again be lowered in the future.
ISO is the leading supplier of statistical, underwriting and actuarial information for the property/casualty insurance industry. Most insurers use the Public Protection Classification (PPC) classifications for underwriting and calculating premiums for residential, commercial and industrial properties.
