CHAD: CHILDREN HAVE AN iDENTITY

STICKERS AVAILABLE

CHAD: Children Have An iDentity is the child safety seat identification program that has been developed as the result of a traffic crash involving a 13-year old boy named Chad.  The babysitter who had been driving was killed.  Chad was injured, but no one at the scene knew his identity.  Only because and emergency room nurse recognized him could his parents be quickly located and his injuries treated.  To ensure rapid identification of your child in such an emergency, the CHAD sticker program has been developed.  The CHAD sticker should be completed and placed in the right corner (child's right) under the cushion or center back of your child's safety seat.

The  Herculaneum Fire Department is making these stickers available to all residents in the Herculaneum area free of charge.  If you are needing the stickers, please stop by the fire station during normal business hours (8:00 AM - 5:00 PM) or Wednesday evenings.  For more information, please call 636 475-3080.

TOT FINDER

STICKERS AVAILABLE

The Tot Finder fire safety program is designed to help firefighters recognize a child's bedroom while performing a primary search of the home during a fire.  Designed with the help of both fire educators and firefighters, the new Tot Finder is actually three (3) stickers in one.  The larger oval sticker is meant to be placed at the bottom of the door directly below the door handle and the smaller two tabs are to be placed on either side of the door jambs (as shown below).  The front of the stickers are produced on a highly reflective material, while the back is made of a special removable adhesive so that they can be removed when the child no longer occupies that  room.

The Tot Finder program is not a substitute for an effective home fire safety program that includes:

                                    a. Working smoke alarms on each level of the home

                                    b. A carefully developed home fire escape plan

                                    c. Regular family fire drills

                                    d. Fire suppression systems

                                    e. Other forms of fire safety and prevention

REMEMBER:

"The easiest fire to put out is the one you prevent"
